To Our Community of Peace:In late January, on a very snowy day, some 25-30 members of the Peace Task Force met to further define the direction of the group. This is the consensus statement that emerged from that meeting: 1. The Task Force agrees that its primary purpose is educational. While activism may emerge out of some of the educational activities, our primary mission is one of education. 2. The focus of the educational mission is to unearth alternative perspectives that are not generally offered in the mainstream media. We seek the alternative perspectives in an effort to balance some of the one-sided views of the dominant US TV, radio, and print media as well as to provide thoughtful information so that people can be in a stronger position to make up their own minds. 3. We see two primary targets for the educational effort. " One is the primary legislative and policy bodies of the United States, especially the Legislative and Executive branches. The Task Force can assist these decision and policy makers to be better informed on matters related to world peace. " The second target is informal and citizen groups (and individuals). These include members of All Souls, other church groups in the Greater New York area, NGOs, school and university audiences, and related groups concerned with world peace. 4. In carrying out this work, we are pleased to cooperate with like-minded organizations and will decide, on a case-by-case basis, which groups we will work with in sponsoring lecture programs, films, panel discussions, field visits, and related information sharing and education. Our first two such programs for the year are on February 27 and March 5. Please see upcoming events for detail. I hope to see you there. Wishing you peace, Please note that we can publish articles on the web site. Should you be interested in submitting an article on a peace related topic, please contact me. |
